On 30 September 2017, in partnership with the Organization of Social Studies Teachers in the Philippines, Inc., the Social Studies Area will be hosting the First OSSTP Student Competition on Social Studies with the theme: “Fake News and Alternative Facts”. The competition will be held at the Benitez Theater, College of Education, University of the Philippines – Diliman.
This competition involves an Essay Writing Contest for Grade 10 students and an Editorial Cartoon Making Contest for Grade 11 students. Each contest requires a fee of 150PhP which includes materials and snacks for the student-participants and teacher-trainers.
This competition aims to provide students with opportunities to gain both the content knowledge and process skills necessary for successful social studies learning. It offers an avenue for students to develop the essential skills needed to better understand society and to become informed and responsible citizens. It also aims to create a strong sense of pride in academic achievement-not only for students, but also for their schools and communities.
