LLC Award Recipient from the UP College of Education

Pinky Cupino for Lontok Awards

Fleur de lys Cupino, a College of Education graduate, was a recipient of the 5th Lourdes Lontok-Cruz’s  (LLC) award for Most Outstanding Dissertation in Women’s and Gender Studies in a ceremony held at the UP Mass Communications auditorium last December 7, 2015.  Her dissertation adviser, Dr. Grace Koo joined her in this event.  This cycle of LLC awards covers theses and dissertations for the academic years 2011-2015 from entries of the entire UP system. Her research on “Stories of Martial Law: Teaching and Learning Processes from the Lenses of Activist Mothers and their Children” was one of the four awarded in the dissertation category.

The UP Center for Women’s Studies (UPCWS) and UP Center for Women’s Studies Foundation, Inc. (UPCWSFI) introduced the LLC award in 2000 with a grant from Atty. Lourdes Lontok-Cruz, president of the UPCWSFI from 1998-2009.  The LLC Award recognizes and highlights the significant role of of Atty. Lontok-Cruz (1923-2011) in strengthening women’s studies in the University of the Philippines and her advocacy for women’s equality and gender empowerment.

It is with pride that that the UP College of Education celebrates this event with Ms. Cupino, who was also a recipient of the Most Outstanding Dissertation Award at the College of Education graduation ceremony in June 2015.
